The father of Grace O’Malley-Kumar has told students to “look out for each other” as he spoke at a vigil for the Nottingham attacks victims.

With Barnaby Webber’s father placing his hand on his shoulder, Sanjoy Kumar said: “You all touched her lives, and hence ours. You will never be forgotten, by us certainly.”

He said it “should never happen to any parent” but told the students: “Thank you for the things you did for our daughter and Barny. And look out for each other. Thank you.”

David Webber also spoke and said he was “lost for words” after “losing his baby boy”.

Friends of the two 19-year-olds joined the family and campus staff at the vigil at Nottingham University.

The pair were stabbed to death in the street in the early hours of Tuesday, along with 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates.

His van was stolen and used to drive into people in the city centre, leaving one person in a critical condition.

A 31-year-old man is being held on suspicion of murder and police say they have an “open mind” on the motive.
