Former Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson has been charged with reckless driving after crashing a car into a home in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old comedian was contacted by police after the incident on 4 March in a residential area of Beverly Hills.

The LA District Attorney’s Office said that it is taking the allegations “seriously” – adding that reckless driving can have “devastating consequences”.

Officers believed the speed of the vehicle contributed to the crash, but no further investigation regarding the star’s sobriety was warranted due to his appearance and cooperation at the scene, according to NBC.

No one was seriously injured as a result of the collision.

“We believe that Mr Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home,” the DA’s office said in a statement.

“In 2022, traffic fatalities in Los Angeles have reached the highest levels seen in 20 years. This is an alarming trend that we cannot ignore.

“As a result, it’s crucial that we take all allegations of reckless driving seriously and hold those responsible accountable.”

Davidson is due to be arraigned on 27 July.

The star left SNL as one of the most popular cast members at the end of the 2021-2022 season.

He is known for his appearances in films including Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Suicide Squad, and Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts.

Davidson also made headlines with his relationship with reality TV star Kim Kardashian, which ended in August last year after nine months.
