The event aims to emulate one of the most famous games in the sport’s history, when Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs at the Houston Astrodome in 1973.
But Flo Clifford, sports journalist for The Independent, criticised the latest match, telling Sky News: “The impact of it is sort of belittling women’s sport, it’s been made this sort of gimmick and the protagonists as well don’t have the same gravitas.”
