Man arrested after ‘allowing 10-year-old son to drive pick-up truck on freeway’

US

A man who allegedly allowed his 10-year-old son to drive a pick-up truck on a freeway in Arizona has been arrested.

The vehicle was said to be speeding and weaving between lanes on State Route 101 in Scottsdale, east of Phoenix.

There was an “open container of alcohol” in the vehicle, it has been claimed.

Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the boy led troopers on a brief pursuit on Saturday afternoon before being pulled over – and that his 49-year-old father was in the passenger seat.

A motorist called 911 to report the unusual situation, DPS said.

An officer spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it after seeing the driver changing lanes unsafely.

The boy eventually pulled over in an emergency lane.

His father was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail on suspicion of endangerment, unlawfully permitting a minor to drive, and having open alcohol in the vehicle.

It is unclear whether he remains in custody or has been released on bail.
